All the awesome art/character illustration in this post was posted first on aentee @ read at midnight and made by CW at Read, Think, Ponder
Now on summer, from Sunday 13th August to Sunday 10th September 2017, I’ll be participating in #TheReadingQuest. This video game based reading challenge is hosted by aentee @ read at midnight. If you want to participate check out the sign-up post for all details.
In this bookish bingo, you can choose only one book for each quest and you must finish a character path before starting another. You can also complete side quests.
I consider the whole idea of a bookish bingo beyond awesome, to the point I wished this was a six months type of challenge with longer paths and even more quests and side quests. However, since this is a one month challenge, I’ll concentrate on the Mage path and a few side quests. So, without much further ado, meet my reading challenge character: Leticia, the mage apprentice 🙂
And this is my chosen TBR for the Mage Path:
A book with a one word title:
Skinwalker (Jane Yellowrock #1) by Faith Hunter. This urban fantasy series was recommended to me by a friend, so why not?
A book that contains magic:
I’ll go to my comfort zone here and choose a romantic paranormal fantasy, so, “Burn for Me: A Hidden Legacy Novel” by Ilona Andrews, will be my option.
A book based on mythology:
The Golem and the Jinni (The Golem and the Jinni #1) by Helene Wecker. I plan on reading this book since forever now and have been held back by its 486 pages (which is actually nonsense because I read books this long quite often) so this reading challenge might be what is necessary to push me forward.
A book set in a different world:
Old Man’s War (Old Man’s War #1) by John Scalzi. A bit of science fiction so I’m not reading only fantasy.
The first book of a series:
To Your Scattered Bodies Go (Riverworld) by Philip Jose Farmer. Another classic sci-fi book I’m curious about.
Side quests
Expansion (Read a Companion Novel or Short Story):
The Demon in the Wood: A Darkling Prequel Story (The Grisha Trilogy) (Shadow and Bone 0.1) by Leigh Bardugo. A short story based on the Grisha verse.
Potions(A Book Concocted of 2+ Authors):
Gemina (The Illuminae Files #2) by Amie Kaufman (Goodreads Author), Jay Kristoff (Goodreads Author), Marie Lu (Goodreads Author). The second book of an awesome sci-fi series.
Mini-Game (Read a Graphic Novel, Novela, or Poem Collection):
I chose “Adulthood Is a Myth: A Sarah’s Scribbles Collection” by Sarah Andersen. This seems like an extremely funny graphic novel and I’m always in the mood for something light.
Time Warp (Read a Book Set in the Past or Future):
The Bone Season by Samantha Shannon. I heard so much about this book, so if I have time I’ll read it.
Open World (Read whatever you want):
I’ll probably hear a nonfiction Audiobook for this challenge. I hope I have enough time to finish “Story: Substance, Structure, Style, and the Principles of Screenwriting” by Robert McKee.
I still don’t have a TBR for other quest paths or challenges, but honestly, for the moment I’ll be happy if I manage to read all these books in these last weeks of summer. My next weeks look as if they will be completely busy with kids at home, a possible one week vacation and preparing to move to another house, so my Mage apprentice might as well brace herself for a bumpy path. 😉 In any case, I’ll keep this post updated with my book ratings and reviews.
Very nice. I adored Skinwalker

And Nikki was the friend who recommended me Skinwalker! I’m enjoying the book so far, and curious about how it will end.

I would love to think that I’m going to get to some side quests, but I don’t know if that’s realistic for me. Maybe it’ll happen! I am going to check out your mythology pick of goodreads though. That’s the one I’m having the hardest time choosing a pick for.

I heard some are picking Percy Jackson for the mythology book too.

Good luck with the challenge!! I hope you’re having fun with it! I loved Sarah’s Scribbles. They’re so relatable and perfect for introverts and artists.😜 And I also looove Gemina! Plus the art was just absolutely amazing in particular in that one. 😍
